When life gets too busy and you drop that content ball
Hello,
This week’s newsletter is a different format for reasons that will reveal themselves in the long read. Normal service will resume next week but I hope you enjoy this creative interlude and it inspires you to go a bit leftfield in your own content.
For those interested, it’s inspired by the poem ‘A postcard on the restorative effects of sea air after a nervous breakdown’ by Ellora Sutton
Stop the world, I want to get off
I plan my weekly emails:
a. every quarter
b. a week in advance
c. on the fly
This week’s newsletter isn’t going out at midday because:
a. I forgot it was Thursday
b. I decided to get sleep rather than schedule
c. Something urgent was dropped on me at the last minute
The urgent task was:
a. going into a client’s office on Tuesday
b. to be completed on the same day it was given
c. missing half the information I needed
d. still ongoing
e. unexpected
I usually write my Thursday Brew on:
a. the day I send it
b. the week before
c. on Tuesday
This week’s newsletter was:
a. not good enough to send
b. exactly as I planned it
c. not written in time
I’m telling you this because:
a. there’s always a way to create content
b. you probably get weeks that are impossible
c. you read my newsletters
I made the decision to change the format:
a. last night
b. this morning
c. as I was walking home from the office
I didn’t create a snazzy graphic because:
a. I was so tired last night I fell asleep at 10pm
b. I ran out of time
c. It was one thing too many on my to-do list and something had to give
My to-do list is:
a. with 30 overdue tasks
b. with no overdue tasks because I moved the dates
c. non-existent
When you’re too busy you can’t think it’s best to:
a. get as much work done as soon as you can so you can have a break
b. go for a run
c. go work in a different place
d. turn off your phone
e. all of the above
f . none of the above
If you’re short of time to plan your content you should:
a. accept it and only do what matters
b. try push through and fit it in
c. try better next time
When someone sucks up your time you should:
a. set firmer boundaries
b. suck it up
c. find the time from elsewhere
If someone says ‘have you got a minute?’ you should:
a. be polite
b. be honest
c. say no
This week’s format is:
a. a nice break
b. a creative outlet
c. irritating as hell and please don’t try it again
All of the above is:
a. true
b. partly true
c. false
That’s it for this week. Do let me know if you enjoyed this format - don’t worry I won’t repeat it. It’s probably something I can only get away with once.
See you next Thursday,
Fiona
