Why are you opening this email?
Hello there,
First, let me thank you for opening this email. It does put a little smile on my face (and I do check in each week because why not?)
Secondly, I want you to ask yourself what it is about this email that made you open it. This is important if you're building a newsletter community. You see, the more we look at our actions and buying decisions - the more we can ask the right questions of our audience. And understand what makes them take action or not.
It's a good but simple exercise that you can do for your business each day. Looking at what it is about emails that make you open them and read them.
But as newsletter readers - can I ask a favour? Can you reply to this email and let me know which newsletters you get that you absolutely have to open and read? The ones that you don't like to miss.
I'm building some data around this subject - more than what I talk about on the podcast this week. So that I can help folks create better emails and hopefully save us from getting a load of guff that we don't want to receive.
Now, I don't think I can change the world of email marketing habits but maybe I can make a little dent in it if I have some data.
It feels a bit meta to talk about a podcast about newsletters on a newsletter but that's what this week is about. Listen here and download the worksheet here.
Talking of data - there is an excellent documentary by Geena Davies which shows the power of data and storytelling to change even a little bit of the world.
So go forth and start testing your marketing emails to make them all the more lovely and entertaining. (And if you send me the link to sign up to your list - I will do).
That's it for this week. I have the awesome Lucy Orton on the podcast next week. It's a good 'un.
See you next Thursday!
Fiona
